记者马克-柏曼称：“根据消息源透露，即将成为自由球员的德拉蒙德，把尼克斯视为一个很不错的去处。”
值得一提的是，此前曾有美媒报道称他有可能买断合同后加盟篮网，但目前来看，骑士并不打算买断他的合同。
本赛季以来，德拉蒙德打了25场比赛，场均17.5分13.5篮板1.2盖帽，其中表现最好的一场比赛，就是对阵纽约尼克斯一战轰下33分23篮板。他在2016-17赛季和活塞签下一份5年1.27亿的合同，本赛季是合同最后一年。
