约翰逊出自名校，但是却有性格上的缺陷。因为对出场时间的不满，在杜克大学打了13场后就退出。
他身高2.07米，能打小前锋和大前锋，但有很好的组织能力。他是比较全面的球员，速度快，运动能力强，能够攻击篮筐。
