Daryl Koh "iceiceice" Pei Xiang isn’t afraid to say what he thinks, and that certainly goes for who the best Southeast Asian Dota 2 players are.
The Evil Geniuses off laner created a tier list of the top Southeast Asian Dota 2 pro players, ranking a number of past and present names. iceiceice made a fairly comprehensive list that includes retired names such as Park "March" Tae-won and such active stars as Kim "Gabbi" Villafuerte.
It’s an interesting lineup with a number of surprises. iceiceice only focuses on the Southeast Asian region, and he doesn’t rank himself, but there’s still a lot to talk about.
23savage joins TNC Predator, Fnatic players atop tier list
For the most part, the top-ranked players are the stars of Southeast Asia’s top teams. Fnatic and TNC Predator are the best-represented teams by a sizable margin.
Four of Fnatic’s five players are ranked in the top tier of their respective positions, with only off laner Natthaphon "Masaros" Ouanphakdee not being ranked as an S-tier player. This analysis should perhaps be taken with a grain of salt, as iceiceice did enjoy great success with some of these players during his time with Fnatic. He may have a bit of favoritism towards his old teammates.
A number of TNC Predator players are also included in the top tier of their positions. This includes current players like Kim "Gabbi" Villafuerte and Armel Paul "Armel" Tabios, as well as the recently kicked Damien "kpii" Chok and former captain Park "March" Tae-won. This comes after TNC Predator failed to qualify for the ONE Esports Singapore Major.
One of the most interesting things touched upon is the controversial roster change of T1. The organization kicked carry Souliya "JaCkky" Khoomphetsavong immediately after securing a spot in the major in order to pick up Nuengnara "23savage" Teeramahanon. Though iceiceice didn’t speak to the ethics of the move, he did rank 23savage above JaCkky.
Who is the best player in Dota 2?
As of this writing, WIN.gg ranks Michał "Nisha" Jankowski of Team Secret as the best Dota 2 player in the world. Other top names include Wang "Ame" Chunyu of PSG.LGD, Ren "eLeVeN" Yangwei of Vici Gaming, and Nisha’s teammate Lasse Aukusti "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen.
In terms of the greatest Dota 2 player of all time, that boils down to a two-horse race between Team Secret captain Clement “Puppey” Ivanov and OG’s Johan “N0tail” Sundstein. Puppey has been attached to top Dota 2 teams through the game’s entire existence, while N0tail is the most heavily credentialed player in the game with two The International championships and multiple major titles to his name.
