周二，国际足联官方宣布，本年度的FIFA最佳颁奖典礼将在2022年1月17日进行。
国际足联还确认，今年的FIFA最佳评选将在11月20日开始投票，12月10日截止。此外，颁奖典礼将通过远程视频的形式进行。
FIFA最佳系列包括11个不同的奖杯，有年度最佳男、女球员，最佳男、女教练、最佳男、女门将，最佳男、女阵容，最佳进球等。
国际足联表示，奖项将以2020-21赛季的表现作为标准，此外还包括今年夏天进行的东京奥运会。
上一届“FIFA最佳男球员”（世界足球先生）评选，莱万力压梅西、C罗得奖，今年莱万依然是得奖热门之一。
